So I've decided to start this blog to record my food related experiences . . . mostly because I love food but also because I have such a bad memory!
In May 2007, I left Brisbane to move to the UK with my husband. Since then, we have challenged the taste buds with both delicious and sometimes scary things to eat! And some of those things we have cooked ourselves.
If I think back, the best things that spring to mind (not withstanding that bad memory!) are:
- My first taste of Foie Gras - served three ways in a tiny restaurant in a back alley in Nice
- The cheese trolley in Burgundy
- Wild boar pappardelle in Tuscany
- The pizza you fold up to eat in Rome
- The gelati in Rome
- Zweibelkuchen and Federweisser wine in Germany (onion cake and new wine)
- The wine and tapas 'tour' in Granada
- Lamb and date tagine with pomegrantate couscous we made just before Christmas
- Eating so many fresh berries during the English Summer, I actually didn't want any more (they are too expensive in Brisbane to be able to just eat, so this was pretty amazing)
- PX Sherry at Pied a Terre
- rabbit with its kidneys still attached in Nice
- finding out what sweetbreads were after Kyle had them at The Square (they tasted amazing though!)
- Steak Tartare in Paris
No wait, all these scary things are what Kyle ate! I think in comparison, I've only eaten unmemorable things!
Most of the things I do for fun are somehow food related - cooking, cooking magazines, cookbooks, restaurants, food shows on TV, food events, restaurant reviews, food blogs, food travel . . . I love shopping for food and deciding what we're going to eat, I love wandering through supermarkets. But mostly, I really love to eat! So this will be my blog concentrating on good things to eat.
