One of the places that was closed during our unsuccessful Venetian pub crawl was Cantina do Mori, which is apparently the oldest bacaro in Venice, opened in 1462. As we were around the Rialto area, we popped in for a quick ciccetti and a small glass of wine.
This place was seriously cool. It was tiny and there were only about three seats. We were only there for about half an hour, but during that time, quite a number of Italian men wandered in, ate a quick sandwich, knocked back a glass of wine and left again.
Cantina do Mori had a large range of wines by the glass as well as some big tanks behind the counter. There was an impressive range of little snacks, including the sandwiches, cheeses, meats and a few types of croquettes.
We enjoyed a small glass of Gavi and a Pinot Nero along with a zucchini croquette and a salt cod crostini. Plenty of atmosphere, tasty little snacks and an impressive wine list - this is a place you could spend some time in. Just make sure it is day time as it closes at 8pm!
